The Year has Ended and Summer is Near

As the year comes to a close, we all need to take time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. All of our fondest memories that we’ve made and all our greatest aspirations we strive for meet right in the middle at the end of this year. At the Bayonet, we’d like to share with you our best memories and plans for the summer. Our lead music journalist, Cory Snyder, says his favorite part of the school year was launching his balloon at Mr. Carlson. “I really enjoyed working with my classmates to create something that I couldn’t make on my own”. When asked about summer he said, “I don’t really have many plans, mostly just lay back and have fun”. With summer approaching, we look forward to time spent with family and vacations. Tiffany Flom can’t wait to go and visit her home state of Missouri. “I’m going up to my grandpa’s lakehouse for the summer. It’s going to be a lot of fun”. As we look forward to the future and enjoy the times we’ve had, all of us at the Bayonet staff wish you all a wonderful summer and an amazing new year to come.

Bucket List

Being part of class of 2014, next year will be my senior year. before coming an adult , I will have one last summer to enjoy before adulthood. All the members of youth seem to take high school for granted. When we are in our adult years, we will look back on our high school years and regret not enjoying it for what an easy life it was. This summer I am creating a bucket list so I don’t miss anything I’ll regret in the future. My advice for any high school student is to not bash high school life as if it is unbearable. High school is the best years of our youthful life.

Summer is the warmest of the four temperate seasons, between Spring and Autumn. At the summer solstice, the days are longest and the nights are shortest, with day-length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. The beginning of summer varies according to climate, culture, and tradition, but when it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. Summer is traditionally associated with hot dry weather, but this does not occur in all regions. In areas of the tropics and subtropics, the wet seasons occurs during the summer. Schools and universities, like CBHS, typically have a summer break to take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days. In all countries, children are out of school during this time of year for summer break, although dates vary. In the United States, public schools usually end in early June while colleges get out in early May. People take advantage of the warmer temperatures by doing activities such as traveling to the beach and having picnics or sports such as cricket, ,volleyball, softball, baseball, Canadian football, tennis. Water sports also occur like water skiing, wake boarding, swimming, surfing, and tubing. Also, the modern Olympics have been held during the summer months every four years since 1896.

1. Nice

There is no better place to spend your Summer vacation than in the beautiful French Riviera. Nice is perched on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and if you tire of the museums, beaches, and cafes, Cannes, Antibes, and Monaco is just a couple miles away.

2. Mykonos

Located in central Greece, Mykonos offers many ancient cultural sights and beautiful luxurious hotels. Mykonos draws travelers from around the world, and the bars, beach, and parties keep them coming for more.

3. Maui

In Hawaii, Maui is a perfect spot for vacationers to enjoy themselves. People can go to the spas, relax on the beaches, and go whale watching. Haleakala National Park has a lot of beautiful scenery and sights to see.

4. San Francisco

San Francisco definitely has an all year round appeal, but during the Summer the city shines with excited people and great spirits. San Francisco has great sights and the weather is always great. San Francisco is also a very nice surfing spot.

The Summer of The Next Generation

This summer of 2013 is planned to be one of the greatest summers for the entire console gaming demographic, in ten years. This summer the expected release of the next generation of gaming consoles, this is the first time in a decade in which a completely new generation of consoles is to be released. The new consoles being released the PS4 and, the Xbox One are the two largest competitors in the industry, however rumors have confirmed the possibility of a new competitor, the SteamBox, being released by Steam this will bring about more competition. The new consoles targeted demographic has changed slightly; Sony and Microsoft are now targeting sales towards the older population of forty and above, instead of teenagers and college students who already own consoles. These new consoles are not only going to be gaming machines for teenagers and college students, they are supposed to the new standard home entertainment system for all homes. Both of the consoles tech have been beefed up to match the always improving and changing technology of todays pc’s. The new consoles will have the same capabilities of a computer except in a much cheaper and smaller package. Both consoles have the capability to use the internet, Netflix, YouTube, and the ability to play and edit videos however the Xbox is rumored to operate on a different rendering program superior to the PS4’s. The release goals of both Microsoft and Sony, are to become the best and standard home entertainment systems, and dominate your living room. On release both consoles are predicted to be monumentally cheaper than previously released consles, predicted at around three hundred dollars rather than previous release pricing around five to six hundred dollars. The release of these consoles will give the gaming industry a much needed refresh since, for the past ten years gaming has been done on the same old consoles, and the gaming industries profit margin has been decreasing significantly in the last 5 years. The consoles will give a much-needed boost to the industry. Many teenagers this summer, instead of going to the beach, or leaving their rooms, will have their eyes glued to the television, and many will lose their tans due to them. This summer will be a fun and interesting one for gaming nerds, and movie-loving adults alike, the new consoles are expected to be the new definition of home entertainment and media. So prepare yourself for a great summer full of fun in the sun and lots of gaming and movie watching in your living room.

Lindsey Poindexter: Old Friends Create Their Own Sequel

In a summer of sequels and second chances, two seniors are also working on the continuation of their friendship. Once seperated by distance, Palmar Kelly and Karina Keyser are reuniting during Palmar’s journey to Washington. Karina and Palmar have been close friends for years, so Karina’s move hurt both of them. Palmar’s decision to make the effort to fly across the United States signifies that no matter how much time ticks by and how many days pass, if two people are willing, any relationship no matter the kind can survive. Their “sequel” will feature catching up, touring Washington together and Palmar will most likely meet Karina’s new boyfriend. Their story isn’t as exciting as the latest Iron man or Hangover movie, but it serves to teach us a lesson we all need to remember as flaky teenagers: Friends can overcome any obstacle and this summer isn’t about forgetting old friends to shape new memories.

Doritos Locos Tacos

I have heard a lot of fuss about which Doritos Locos Taco from Taco Bell is the best. Made of a Dorito as the shell and meat, cheese, and lettuce this Taco is pretty good. You can pick what shell you want, either Nacho Cheese or Cool Ranch. I myself prefer both because I think that they are very delicious and they are only a $1.39. If you’re hungry on a warm summer day at the beach I would definitely consider getting one of these tacos.

Summer School

Don’t put your books away just yet, it is time for Brevard Community College’s summer term! There are four different terms for the 2013 schedule: May 20 – August 8, May 20 – June 27, June 17 – August 8, July 1 – August 8. BCC provides different options for those who are unable to start at certain times.

It does not sound very fun but it has it benefits: you get to meet new people, be around older and more mature students, and it is not very time consuming. From experience, I thoroughly enjoyed the 2012 summer term because it is hard to stay busy all throughout summer. This provides kids with something to do and keeps them busy; therefore, keeping them out of trouble.

Depending on the flexibility of your schedule, you are able to find a class where you only have to go twice a week, and if that is not offered or does not fit your schedule, you are able to find a class that is four days a week. Although that sounds time consuming, classes are only about an hour or so long. Taking a class at 8 am would allow you to get out around 9:15 and begin your day, not too bad!

Overall, summer term for BCC is not as bad as it sounds. You are able to get some college credit while keeping yourself busy. It does not have to be time consuming, you are still able to have a life!

Fun Summer Activities for all

Since we were kids, all we wanted to do over summer was to attend all the summer camps that our friends were attending. But now that most of us highschoolers are too old to attend camps, we volunteer and help the younger kids enjoy the events. For example, one of the camps this summer is the “Our Saviours Summer Fun Camp’.

This camp goes on all throughout the summer and every week there is a new activity for this kids to enjoy. One week will consist of different speakers that will have activities, one week is volleyball, another has a Friday of going to a theme park, and also many other activities. Every Friday is called “Fun-Day Friday”, and they have a big waterslide for the kids to slide down, water balloon fights, and more realted activities that the kids would enjoy.

Summer is in the Air!

The warm sun, hot sand, boating, and other outdoor activities. Its that time of the year again. Family and friends going on vacations and don’t have to wake up early. Summer is the time of the year to lay back and relax. If there is nothing to do over summer in your free time volunteer. There are the up and downs when it comes to summer time to though.

Summer, there’s the good and bad. Going out and having fun is one of the best parts of summer. There’s the bad though to, summer jobs, and losing some friends. A summer job, there’s the good and bad. Making money is always a nice thing, but taking time out of summer days and night is a buzz kill. Losing friends is not easy either. Leaving school and not keeping in touch with friends is kind of hard to handle.

There’s a nice thing about summer too. Putting your toes in the nice warm sand. Tanning on the beach, boating and fun activities with your friends. Going on fun far vacations is another highlight of summer. It’s always nice to get out of the town, or state.
