The end of the school year is coming up soon, and everyone who goes to Cocoa Beach High knows what this means, exams! These exams are created by the teachers to challenge their students’ knowledge on what they have been taught all year. The exams occur during the last 4 days of school, and afterwards school ends. It is a good idea to study for these hard tests, as they are considered the hardest tests of the semester. The End of Course exams contain almost everything you have been taught about all year. Good luck from Cocoa Beach High Journalism!

A hot topic in international news for the past few months has been the North Korean threat of nuclear war against the United Statesand South Korea. Ever since the 1950’s North Koreaand South Korea have had major conflicts between the two nations. These conflicts led to the Korean War which started on June 25th 1950. The war lasted until July 27th of 1953, making it a three year war. At the time North Korea, whose official name is The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, was supported by the Soviet Union and China. South Korea was backed by theUnited States, The United Kingdom, and the United Nations. The war ended with an armistice, which is an agreement between countries to stop fighting. However an armistice is not necessarily an end to a war. A peace treat was never signed between the two nations.

On October 9th 2006, the North Korean Government announced it’s first successful nuclear test and in 2007 North Korea had confirmed it acquired multiple nuclear weapons. Currently North Korea claims they an intercontinental missile that could supposedly carry nuclear warheads to the continentalUnited States. American spy planes have confirmed thatNorth Korea has missiles, but at this moment we are not sure if these missiles can in fact carry a warhead over the Pacific Ocean and make it to American soil. With North Korea being a rouge state, even the possibility of North Korea owning an intercontinental missile is a serious threat to theUnited States and many other countries.

North Korea continues to threaten Japan,South Korea and United States of America with the possibility off a nuclear attack. The United Sates are taking this threat seriously and are mobilizing anti-missile defense systems to the west coast to protect American citizens for possible attack. While some countries feel that they should prepare to defend their country from the nuclear threat, some others feel that they should act in a more aggressive manner. In the nation ofJapansome outspoken people feel thatJapanhas the right to launch a preemptive attack against the North Korean threat. This is a controversial idea even amongst many people that the nuclear threat effect. The people against the notion of a preemptive strike fear that it will spark a war that is unnecessary.

This whole fiasco began over 60 years ago and is still a major topic in today’s major news outlets. Many people hope that this conflict will in peacefully, but is this a realistic outlook?

When coming to school on Monday many students were shocked to see that the retention ponds and even some of the classrooms in the music build have been flooded. The floods were the product of the storm that occurred on Sunday the 14th. The large storm cell that appeared overFlorida was so severe that a tornado warning was in effect until after 10:00 P.M. The storm caused many neighborhoods around centralFlorida to loose power.BrevardCounty has not seen a storm of this magnitude this year and we at Beach Bayonet wish that the storm’s aftermath is not going to stop students’ plans in any way in the near future.

Around the U.S students who participate in athletics will soon have to pay an extra fee to participate in athletics. This topic is still being debated and it has been given huge amounts of thought as to wether to make a flat fee to play sports or a sport specific fee. The rumored Fee will begin at a one hundred dollar fee for the first sport, and a fifty dollar fee for the second, third, etc. sports. This information is at the moment merely rumor, but in Brevard county the idea of pay to play is being considered. The enactment of this policy will inevitably lead to, hundreds of student athletes to quit their sport.
